Purpose:

This study examines factors that relate to our ability to bounce back from adverse life events.  Previous research has suggested that our ability to bounce back (resilience) involves various key factors.

Inclusion Criteria:

I have been told that for me to participate in this study I must be at least 18 years of age.

Procedure:

I have been informed of the following: I will be asked to complete 15 questionnaires that measure personal well-being activities such as stress, happiness, social support systems, spirituality, and demographic information among other things.  I have been told that in its entirety, this should take no longer than 25 minutes to complete.

Risks and Discomforts:

I have been told that there are no known risks for participating in this study. I have been told that data recorded during this experiment will be assigned a random number that will never be associated with my name or other identifying information during analysis.  I have been told that my responses will be kept confidential. I have been told that the data collected from this experiment will be analyzed as group, rather than individual data.

Benefits and Results:

I understand that I may not receive any direct benefits from participating in this study. I understand that the results of this study will provide further insight on which variables may best predict proactive and reactive resilience.  The results of this study may lead to the development of training models and continuing education programs that incorporate evidence-based resiliency practices for professionals working in the disaster behavioral health response, trauma, grief, stress management, and other helping fields. I understand that the information collected during this study will be presented in a class setting, and presented and/or published in professional meetings or journals.

Voluntary Participation:

I have been told that my participation in this study is voluntary. I have been told that I will be compensated with a $5 Amazon gift card for completing the study.  I have been told that I may discontinue my participation in this study at any time without any penalty or prejudice.  I further understand that if I do not complete the study I will not receive any compensation.
